"Yo, Jamie - you awake?"

Jamie lay sound asleep on the couch in Eddys house. Eddy nudged her a little bit, but she wouldn't even open her eyes. A muffled "mfnfmnnn" escaped from Jamie's lips.

"Come on!" Eddy said. He tapped her shoulder a few times to see if she would wake up, and nothing happened. He tapped a little bit harder, and Jamies eyes snapped open.

"Mmmm, Jimmy Fal-huh what huh?" Jamie said. She shook her head a few times to wake herself up.

"Oh, I'm sorry did I wake you?" Eddy asked innocently.

"Yeah, you did - hey, what time is it?" Jamie asked while rubbing her eyes.

"9:30."

"Oh thats good, 9:30," Jamie said calmly, but then her head sprang up. "9:30?"

"Yeah, that's what I said."

Jamie screamed, and rolled off the couch onto the floor, dragging the blanket on top of her. "Oh of all the darn luck!" Jamie threw the blanket off of her and sprang up to her feet.

"Slow down. Chief!" Eddy said. "Where's the fire?"

"Eddy, I have an important appointment at 10am, and I have to walk there and its really far away," Jamie said as she threw some clothes out of her backpack, looking for something to wear. "If I don't haul some serious butt I'm gonna be late!"

Jamie ran into the closet and slammed the door. Within minutes, Jamie came out holding her pajamas in her hand and she shoved them in her backpack.

"What appointment?" Eddy asked.

"I can't tell you - it's a surprise," Jamie said.

"You can't tell me...wait a minute, this isn't one of your old ex-boyfriends again, is it?" Eddy asked.

"Of course not!" Jamie paused. "Well, at least not this week, anyway," Jamie said slyly. Eddy shot her a look. "What? I was just kidding! Lighten up, man," Jamie said to Eddy as he rolled his eyes.

"You know, I was reading in a magazine the other day that a person needs to make some changes in his or her life to get more out of it," Jamie said. "So I've decided to take action, and I'm gonna start this morning."

"How exciting," Eddy said dryly.

"Okay, my wallet, my pocketbook...I think I have everything," Jamie said.

"Aren't you forgetting something?" Eddy asked sweetly.

Jamie looked at him. "You know what? I think I am." Jamie walked past him over to the dresser and grabbed her cell phone. "Thanks for reminding me! I dont know where I'd be without it."

"Shot down again," Eddy said to himself. "Talk about your all-time backfires."

"Hey wait, I forgot something else too!" Jamie said. She walked over to Eddy and planted a kiss on his cheek. "This shouldn't take too long. I'll be back soon, I promise!"

Jamie ran down the hallway, opened the front door, and started walking down the street. She passed Ed and Double-D as they were coming up the sidewalk. "Hi Ed, Hi, Double-D! Bye, Ed! Bye, Double-D!" Jamie exclaimed as she rushed right past them.

"Hello! Don't forget to write!" Ed said.

"Hmm, that ball of energy that just ran by us - was that Jamie?" Double-D asked.

"Of course it was, Sockhead!" Eddy said, standing by the doorway.

"Oh, good morning to you too. Where was she going?"

"Beats me! She said she had an appointment or something. She said that it wouldn't take too long."

"Well, that's good," Double-D said. "I'm going to regret asking this, but what are we going to do today?"

"Okay, and how long have we known each other, Double-D?" Eddy asked.

"A long time probably too long."

"Mm-hmm, and what have we been doing every single day since we've known each other?" Eddy asked.

"Bake potatoes?" Ed asked.

"There's no need to raise your voice, Eddy. I thought that you'd have something else planned for us today to take a break from the norm."

"Yeah, right!" Eddy said. "We don't take any breaks - especially from Norm! Come on!"

"I hope Jamie comes back soon," Double-D said to himself.

"You and me both, Double-D!" Eddy said.

Later on, they decided to sell popcorn from their makeshift stand in front of Double-Ds house.

"Popcorn, get it while it's hot, folks!" Eddy yelled.

"Get it while it's buttered, like toast!" Ed bellowed.

"Eddy, you are unbelievable - I dont think that anyone could fall for these Styrofoam box innards that you are trying to pass off as popcorn!" Double-D said. "What's next - popcorn butter made from yellow paint?"

"Good call, Double-D! Get the paint from your garage!"

Double-D sighed. "I just had to say that, didn't I?"

Suddenly, Double-Ds eyes drifted towards the edge of the cul-de-sac. "Hey guys, what is that?" Double-D asked.

Eddy squinted his eyes. "Can't really tell, Sockhead. It looks like a person."

"It is the horrible alien monster from Revenge of the Bunion People Part 6!" Ed yelled. "It's after our baloney! Run!" Ed started to run towards the figure entering the cul-de-sac.

"Ed, no! Wait!" Eddy and Double-D said in unison as they ran after him.

Without any warning, Ed jumped onto the figure and pinned it down to the ground. Double-D and Eddy watched in shock. Then Ed got up off the ground.

"Ed, send an impulse to your brain and stop!" Double-D said.

"Wait, isn't that-" Eddy started to say. Then she shook his head. "Nah, it couldnt be."

"Is this the welcome I get for getting my hair done?" the figure said.

"Jamie?" Double-D asked. Then the Eds gasped.

Jamie got up from off the ground and brushed herself off. Her brown hair was dyed platinum blonde.

"I don't believe it - is that really you?" Double-D asked.

"Yeah, I mean - who else would it be?" Jamie said.

"Wow," Eddy said. "What did you do with your hair?"

"I dyed it blonde. Pretty neat, huh?"

"I am so sorry!" Ed said as he clutched her leg.

"Why did you decide to dye your hair? I thought you liked it brown?" Double-D asked.

"Like I told Eddy before I left, I was reading this article in a magazine that said a person should make some changes in his or her life in order to get more out of it, so I changed my hair as a start!"

"Is it permanent?" Eddy asked.

"I dont think so. The woman that did it said that if I didn't like it, I could change it back. It's kind of like a test drive," Jamie said.

"Hey dorks!" Kevin said.

"Oh no," Eddy said under his breath.

"Hey, who's the new girl?" Kevin asked. "I better tell Jamie - she'll have a fit!"

"Tell me what, Kevin?" Jamie said.

Kevin did a double take. "No way! Haha! Dorky's girlfriend went blonde!"

"You know Kevin, they may have changed my hair, but my right hook is still intact," Jamie said to him, waving her fist. Kevin gulped and slowly walked away.

"I can't wait to show everyone my new hairstyle!" Jamie said. "I hope everyone likes it."

"See ya later," Double-D said.

"Alright," Jamie said. "Hey Sarah! I got something to show you!" With that, she ran away.

"I can't believe it," Double-D said. "She went out and did something drastic like that."

"Me neither," Eddy said.

"What do you make of all this?" Double-D asked Eddy.

"Well, I'm not sure. I guess it looks good. It's just not the same."

"Nothing ever is," Ed said profoundly. "Pickle?"

All of a sudden, Jamie stormed back to where the Eds were standing.

"Fine, be that way!" Jamie said. "I've just endured all the taunting that I can stand!"

"What's the problem?" Double-D asked.

"All the kids were making fun of me because of my hair," Jamie said. "They don't like it!"

"So that means you're going to change it?" Eddy asked excitedly.

"Not a chance!" Jamie said. "This will only strengthen my resolve."

"Oh boy" Double-D said.

The next day, Jamie went out for a walk. She saw all the other kids playing outside, and she wanted to join in too. She saw Sarah and Jimmy playing jump-rope and walked over to them.

"Hey, Sarah, can a cousin join in?" Jamie asked.

"Well if you find one of them, you can ask them. You might mess up!" Sarah snapped. "Come on, Jimmy."

Jamie stared at them with her mouth wide open. "Fine! No free tickets to my concerts either - you'll pay full price! And if you think you're getting backstage passes, you have another thing coming!" Jamie stormed off in a huff.

"Spazzing out again, sunshine Jamie-girl?" a familiar voice said. Jamie turned around and saw Rolf holding a rake.

"Hey Rolf, like the new do?" she asked him.

"Yes, your hair is brighter than polished turnips!" Rolf said. "I have never seen such a thing!"

"Gee, thanks. I've been taking the heat from everyone around here, Rolf. I can't stand it!" Jamie said. "Hey, do you think I can help you with whatever youre doing?"

"Sure, I'm overturning the beets. You can help!"

"Great!" Jamie said.

Rolf and Jamie walked over to his garden. Rolf handed her a shovel. "Now, what you have to do, is lift up the dirt and rotate it - can you do that?"

"Yeah," Jamie said. She took the shovel and dug into the ground. Then the shovel got stuck in the ground by a root. Jamie pulled it out in a swift motion, and a mound of dirt flew up into the air and down on Rolf's head. Jamie stared in shock.

"Rolf!" Jamie said. "I'm so sorry! Do you need any help cleaning up?"

"Get out of my garden, platinum ditzy girl!" Rolf bellowed. Jamie threw down the shovel and stormed out into the street.

"I don't get it," Jamie thought. "Ever since I dyed my hair, everyone has been treating me like a ditz! " She continued walking until she saw Kevin fawning over Nazz. "Now wait a minute - Nazz is a blonde, and they don't treat HER any different. What's wrong with me then?"

Jamie decided to take matters into her own hands.

Jamie walked over to Kevin and Nazz. "Hey Nazz, can I ask you something?"

"Beat it, dork," Kevin said. "Can't you see I'm busy?"

"Hey Kevin, my fist would really like to meet with your face. It said that it missed you," Jamie hissed. Kevin gulped and slowly walked away, muttering "I'll see you later, Nazz."

"Nazz, you have to help me," Jamie said. "Ever since I fixed my hair, everyone has been treating me differently."

"Like how?" she asked.

"Well they've been calling me stuff, like Ditz and Blondie, all because I changed my hair - it's not even natural!"

"I see," Nazz said. "Maybe we can figure out something to do."

Jamie smiled. "I have to admit that I was kind of jealous of you because of your hair, but that's not why I did this I wanted to do something different, I needed a change. So I'll see you tomorrow?"

"I'll see you then!" Nazz said.

The next morning, Jamie was sitting outside on the sidewalk in front of Eddy's house talking with Eddy, Ed, and Double-D. Rolf stormed up to them with a shovel in his hands. The other kids were not too far behind him.

"There you are, good-for-nothing Jamie-girl!" Rolf said.

"Hold ON here!" Eddy said. "Whats this all about?"

"Your blonde-haired friend messed up my garden!" Rolf said.

"I didn't mean to do any harm - it's an honest mistake!" Jamie said.

"Really?" Kevin said. "Ever since you went blonde, you've been spazzing out on us more than ever!"

Suddenly, Nazz walked up to them. She stood on the front stoop of Eddys front porch.

"Hey!" she yelled. "I don't see what's wrong with Jamie at all! You guys are being very shallow!"

"Thats right - you tell 'em Nazz!" Jamie said.

"What does her being blonde have to do with anything anyway? People have been giving us blondes a bad name with all these stereotypes! We've been working hard at proving them wrong!"

"Preach it, sista!" Jamie said, clapping her hands. She started to hum "The Battle Hymn of The Republic" very faintly in the background.

Nazz continued on. "Why can't we just be accepted for who we are on the inside instead of by the color of our hair? The world will be such a better place if everyone did that! We should practice being better people today, before it's too late! And when that day comes, by golly, everyone will live in peace and harmony!"

All the kids stared at her in surprise, then Johnny started clapping. The other kids followed not long after. Nazz, surprised by the response, stepped forward to take a bow...only to trip on the front step. Jamie ran over to help her up. "Are you alright, Nazz?"

Nazz giggled faintly. "Oops," she said innocently. "I tripped." Kevin took her arm and walked off the front lawn with the other kids behind him.

Jamie and Eddy were in complete shock. Then they looked at each other and started laughing.

"So," Double-D said. "What did we learn from all this?"

"I don't know," Jamie said. "But some changes arent for the better. Especially this one."

"So does that mean you're going back to brown?" Eddy asked.

"I have to make my decision tomorrow morning. I was given a 3-4 day grace period with it."

"Napkin, please!" Ed said.

"Well, I'm going to sleep on it, and I'm going to go tomorrow morning, bright and early."

"Jamie time to get up."

Eddy looked at Jamie sleeping on the couch. He had to admit that she looked awfully cute with blonde hair. He was almost sorry to see it go.

"Jamie, come on you gotta get up!"

"Mfmfhmnn," Jamie mumbled. Then she opened her eyes. "What time is it?"

"9:30."

"Not again," Jamie said. "Well, I knew this was going to happen, so I slept in my regular clothes." She threw the blanket on the floor and sprang up from the couch. "Ta-da!"

"Nice move - youre ready?" Eddy asked.

"As I'll ever be," she said. "I'll be back later."

Later on, Eddy was pacing outside on the front lawn. Ed and Double-D were sitting on the front stoop watching him.

"Eddy, calm down," Double-D said.

"Come on, Eddy - no time to be nervous," Ed said.

Suddenly, they saw Jamie walking towards them with her stuffed underneath a baseball cap. She looked at the Eds, smiled, and took the cap off. Her hair went back to her normal brown color. Eddy breathed a sigh of relief.

"It's great to have the old me back," Jamie said.

"Did you go somewhere?" Ed asked.

"Yeah, Ed In a way, I actually did," Jamie said.

"Hey Jamie," Nazz said. "You changed your hair back?"

"Yeah," Jamie said. "See ya later, Nazz. Thanks for all your help."

"You know, there's a lesson to be learned from all of this," Double-D said.

"Oh I know what it is!" Jamie said. "Even though every person is different in their own way, there are those of us who dye trying to be the same, right?"

Ed, Eddy, and Jamie started to laugh. "Good one, Jamie!" Ed said.

Double-D sighed. "Oh brother," he said. Then he started laughing.
